Microsoft Technology Center upgrades data center infrastructure with Alcatel-Lucent and QLogic
Behind one of the leading showcase technology centers you’ll find Alcatel-Lucent and QLogic. What’s all the excitement? Well, when you consider that Microsoft Technology Centers (MTC) are globally known for serving as a high-tech, multivendor environment test bed for enterprises to take a spin of the latest technologies, now perhaps you see the reason for our excitement.
Recently, at the MTC in Irvine, California, Alcatel-Lucent and alliance partner QLogic provided the formula for a state-of-the-art data, networking and storage infrastructure for advanced solutions testing. The two companies bring an element of expertise that enables MTC to demonstrate innovative business solutions and deployments for cloud services, virtualized infrastructures, and intelligent application fluent data center fabrics.
Alcatel-Lucent’s unique application fluent approach and visionary award winning data center switching platform, delivers a complete solution for modernizing the data center network and helps to:
• Manage applications as services, with the network understanding each application and automatically adapting to follow virtual machine movement within or between data center sites;
• Prepare for the future with Alcatel-Lucent’s innovative data center fabric. The architecture delivers low latency, high density and a long term standards-based sustainable design.
Microsoft Technology Centers give enterprises access to innovative technologies. The world-class expertise found there helps businesses see their vision come to life with solutions that solve real business concerns and advance their capabilities to meet mission critical business requirements. The MTC Irvine facility allows customers to craft real-world application tests in an end-to-end Microsoft application infrastructure, powered by its alliance partners and Alcatel-Lucent, to understand how their solutions will satisfy specific business needs.
The Irvine MTC now has a state-of-the-art data, networking and storage infrastructure. As part of the solution Alcatel-Lucent provided the datacenter LAN infrastructure comprising of OmniSwitch 6900 (OS6900) and OmniSwitch 6450 (OS6450) stackable LAN switches. The OS6900 offers a high-density 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and 40 GbE platform with low latency and high resiliency required by the application flows delivering a next generation virtualized data center, and are positioned as top of rack switches in the data center. The OS6450 provides optimized Gigabit connectivity with upgrade paths for 10 Gigabit stacking and 10 Gigabit Ethernet uplinks.
QLogic provided stackable Fiber Channel switches, Fiber Channel Host Bus Adapters plus high-speed Ethernet adapters. QLogic Ethernet NICs boast industry-leading Ethernet performance, achieving dual-port, line-rate 10-gigabit Ethernet (GbE) throughput, plus NIC partitioning which divides one physical port into four virtual ports with flexible, user-defined allocation of 10Gbps bandwidth.
Director at MTC Irvine Scott Case noted, “MTC Irvine showcases a proven end-to-end solution, as the de facto standard, offering customers a customizable platform for applications testing that also reduces potential implementation issues. The high-performance clusters created by QLogic and Alcatel-Lucent literally duplicate a customer environment for sales demonstrations of applications available today, plus real-world design, prototyping and testing of solutions for future deployments.”
Enterprises today are challenged to support advanced devices and applications that are enabling a new generation of enterprise communications and collaboration services. Alcatel-Lucent’s data center infrastructure solutions and its ecosystem of partners, which includes QLogic, help enterprises meet these challenges. MTC in Irvine is leveraging our two companies to offer businesses to test the latest applications and innovative technologies before going live with their own data centers. What a way to be a part of something!
